Asheville Tourists News Release
Charleston, SC-- The Asheville Tourists waited patiently for the Charleston RiverDogs to go to their bullpen on Friday night. Once the home team obliged, the Tourists took advantage with a four-run seventh inning and held on late to win 4-3. Both starters, Johendi Jiminian for Asheville and Luis Severino for Charleston, were lights out.
Severino went six innings and allowed only two hits without giving up a run. Both hits came off the bat of Raimel Tapia. Jiminian worked seven frames for the Tourists and was equally as dominant. The right hander surrendered just three hits but he did allow a third inning run off a sacrifice fly. When the RiverDogs brought in Omar Luis in a 1-0 game in the top of the seventh, the lefty immediately struggled with his control. After issuing back-to-back walks to start the inning, Ryan McMahon dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position. The next batter, Wilfredo Rodriguez, gave the Tourists their first lead with a two-run single to right.
Two batters later, Ashley Graeter connected for a two-run Home Run to left putting the visitors in front 4-1. Charleston plated a pair of unearned runs in the eighth on Aaron Judge's two-run double to left.
Trent Daniel bounced back and retired Mike Ford to end the inning. The Tourists called on Dylan Stamey to work the bottom of the ninth and with no margin for error, Stamey came through. After recording two quick outs, Asheville's closer walked Miguel Andujar but he responded by striking out Eduardo de Oleo to end the game.
Jiminian moved to 6-2 with the win and Stamey earned his ninth save of the season. Offensively, Tapia finished 3-for-3 in a game that did not feature many hits. Asheville has now won the first two games of their current seven-game road trip and are back in action at 6:05pm on Saturday evening.
