PREVIEW: The Shorebirds got a crucial road trip off to a good start, clinging to a 4-3 victory in the opener at Lakewood. A key insurance run in the seventh inning proved to be the difference, and Jimmy Yacabonis locked down the win with two more scoreless innings in his 13th save. Shore- birds' ace Hunter Harvey will start game two against the BlueClaws.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Ranfi Casimiro will start Friday evening for the Lakewood BlueClaws. Casimiro has gone 2-4 with a 5.40 in nine starts for Lakewood. In his only start against Delmarva, Casimiro allowed a single run in six innings. In his last three starts overall, the right-hander has al- lowed three run (two earned) in 17 innings. The native of the Dominican Republic pitched in the DSL in 2011 & 2012, before graduating to the GCL in 2013.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles fell back to .500 on the year with a 3-1 defeat to the Houston Astros. George Springer hit his 10th home run of the season for Houston. Baltimore is now 26-26 on the season, sitting in third place in the American League East. The O's are 4 1/2 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays.

THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

WHO'S HOT/WHO ELSE

SEBASTIAN VADER | P

On Tuesday night, Vader collected his sixth straight victory, all coming his last six starts. Vader retired the first 13 batters he faced before a double in the 5th inning. The right-hander improved to 7-1 on the year, tying the South Atlantic League lead for wins with Brady Lail and Nick Pivetta. Vader also low- ered his ERA to 3.09.

WHO'S HOT - JIMMY YACABONIS

Through his first 17 appearances, the Del- marva closer has yet to allow a run. Yacabo- nis is perfect 13-for-13 in save opportunities with a 1-0 record. In 20.0 innings, Yacabonis has struck out 26 batters.

WHO ELSE - JEFF KEMP

Jeff Kemp went 4-for-4 on Sunday with an RBI triple to help Delmarva to a four- game sweep of Kannapolis. The Delmarva shortstop just had a 10-game hitting streak snapped in game two on Monday.
