JaCoby Jones' 12th Inning Slam the Winner for Power

(Greensboro, NC- May 30, 2014)- The West Virginia Power beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 6-2 in 12 innings Friday night. JaCoby Jones hit a grand slam in the top of the 12th to push the Power past the Hoppers after an eighth inning, two-out rally to tie the game.

West Virginia spotted starter Shane Carle with a run in the top of the third on a single by Candon Myles to drive in Chris Diaz. Greensboro evened the score in the home half of the third and took a 2-1 lead with three straight singles in the sixth.

In the top of the eighth inning with two down, Reese McGuire doubled to right, extending the catcher's hitting streak to 19 consecutive games. Edwin Espinal singled to plate McGuire and tie the game at two.

Each team had opportunities to win in the ninth, but neither club could plate a run. West Virginia put runners on board in the tenth and eleventh innings as well. In the 12th, Diaz singled, Myles reached on a base hit and Justin Maffei was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jones drilled an 0-1 pitch over the left center wall to clear the bases and give the Power a 6-2. The shortstop now has a team-high seven home runs and 27 runs batted in.

Isaac Sanchez (2-0) tossed two scoreless for the win. Clario Perez worked a scoreless 12th to hold the Hoppers at bay. Miguel Del Pozo (0-4) allowed the grand slam and took the loss. Six West Virginia batters had at least two hit as the club collected 14 in the game.

Game three of this series is slated for Saturday night at NewBridge Bank Park with the Power's Buddy Borden facing the Hoppers Domingo German. West Virginia returns home on Monday, June 2, to host the Kannapolis Intimidators.
