THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia ended its three-game slide with a 5-1 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. Austin Coley was sharp in his sixth start of the year, hurling six innings of one-run ball to earn his SAL-best fifth win. Offensively, the Power scored first for the first time during this homestand thanks to an Elvis Escobar solo shot in the second. In the third, the Power scored in three different bases loaded scenarios. Taylor Gushue hit an RBI single, Michael Suchy then reached on catcher's interference, and Pablo Reyes drew a walk. Jeff Roy scored in the sixth on an error to cap the scoring for the Power.
CUP O' JOE: Power first baseman Connor Joe made his professional debut in last night's victory. Taken with the 39th overall selection of the 2014 MLB Draft, Joe went 1-for-4 with a single, walk, and run scored. Defensively, Joe made a diving stop at first base to prevent the RiverDogs from scoring a run in the fifth inning. Joe being drafted by the Pirates came from Pittsburgh sending Bryan Morris to the Miami Marlins in exchange for the No. 39 selection.

The RiverDogs lead the all-time series 35-26 and have a 15-13 edge at Appalachian Power Park after sweeping a three-game series from April 8-10, 2013.
