TONIGHT'S MATCH-UP

Cedeno: Allowed one run on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 5/6 W at LEX (3-1 RiverDogs)

Coley: Tossed season-best 6.0 IP and surrendered a run on four hits in 5/6 W vs. KAN (4-2 Power)

THE LEAD OFF: The Power saw their ninth inning rally come to a halt in their 6-5 loss to the Charleston RiverDogs on Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. Trailing 6-3 entering in their last turn at bat, Michael Suchy and Chase Simpson each drew one-out walks and Trace Tam Sing followed with a base hit to left to bring home Suchy and make it 6-4. Elvis Escobar then plated Simpson with a base hit to left. Kawika Emsley-Pai hit a line drive to the second baseman Angel Aguilar who caught the line drive on a dive and doubled off Tam Sing at second to end the Power comeback. Colten Brewer suffered the loss after he surrendered four runs over five innings in his SAL debut.

WINDS OF CHANGE: West Virginia is currently riding a three-game losing streak, its longest of the season. The Power dropped the final game of the series against the Kannapolis Intimidators and each of the first two games of this series against the RiverDogs. In this current series, the Power pitching staff has surrendered 22 hits and defensively West Virginia has committed five errors.

BATTLE OF THE CHARLIES: West Virginia hosts the Charleston RiverDogs for the first time since April 2013. The RiverDogs lead the all-time series 35-25 and have a 15-12 edge at Appalachian Power Park after sweeping a three-game series from April 8-10, 2013. The Power and RiverDogs will play seven games against each other this season, including a three-game set in South Carolina from June 16-18.

SAFETY NET: West Virginia starting pitchers this season own a 4.26 ERA over 126.2 innings of work. Comparatively, the bullpen has seen 111.1 innings of action and hold a collective ERA of 2.91.

MARATHON MAN: Chase Simpson is the only West Virginia player to appear in all 29 games this season. The infielder leads the team with a .284 average and 14 runs batted in. Simpson is also tied for the team lead with four home runs and his .413 on base percentage is fourth-best in the South Atlantic League. The most amount of games played by a Power player in one season was back in 2008 when Caleb Gindl and Zealous Wheeler each appeared in 137 of 139 games played. During the Pirates-Power affiliation, the most amount of games played was Dan Grovatt and Mel Rojas, Jr., who each played 131 of 138 games in 2011.

BUT CAN HE GET ON BASE?: The Power have four players who are currently riding on-base streak of at least six games. Leading the charge is Chase Simpson who has reached base safely in a team-best 15 consecutive games. The Texas native's streak is currently the seventh longest in terms of games in the league this year. Pablo Reyes has reached base safely in 14 consecutive games while Jordan Luplow and Trace Tam Sing have reached base safely in ten and six games, respectively.

CALL HIM WEAPON X: Connor Joe was promoted to the West Virginia roster on Monday. The outfielder, drafted by Pittsburgh in the first competitive balance round last summer, has yet to play a professional game due to injuries. The University of San Diego-product hit .367 with nine home runs during his junior season with the Toreros. In a corresponding roster move, Trace Tam Sing has been transferred to the WV Black Bears roster.

POWER PROMO UPDATE- MAY 12: West Virginia hosts the Charleston RiverDogs this Tuesday in the second and final Grand Slam School Day of the season at Appalachian Power Park. Gates open at 9:30 with a 10:35 am first pitch.

POWER POINTS: Cole Tucker is 2-for-27 since his 11-game hitting streak ended on May 3...The Power are on a three-game losing streak, its longest of the 2015 season.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh defeated St. Louis 4-3 thanks to Jung-Ho Kang home run and game winning hit...Alen Hanson hit his first Triple-A home run in Indianapolis' 2-1 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre...Altoona defeated Harrisburg 7-4 as Max Moroff extended his on-base streak to 26 consecutive games...Bradenton had an off day yesterday and will return to action tonight in Brevard County.
