Kannapolis Scores Early in 7-3 Win over Legends

Kannapolis starter Jordan Guerrero limited Lexington to two hits in seven innings, and the Intimidators built an early lead on their way to a 7-3 win over the Lexington Legends Monday in front of 6,760 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Eddy Alvarez had two hits and three walks and stole three bases for Kannapolis.

Kannapolis scored two runs without a hit in the first inning. Alvarez drew a leadoff walk and stole second base, and with one out, Christian Stringer walked. After Louie Lechich struck out, Brett Austin hit a ground ball to third baseman Carlos Garcia, who threw past second base for an error. Alvarez scored on the play, and Stringer went to third, from where he scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the second, Ryan Leonards doubled, went to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch. Alvarez walked, stole second, and came home on a double by Michael Suiter, giving the Inimidators a 4-0 lead.

Lechich led off the third with a double and scored on a single by Austin. Alvarez had a two-run single later in the inning to put Kannapolis up 7-0.

Guerrero, who improved his record to 4-0 with the victory, gave up a single by Humberto Arteaga in the second inning and a double by Arteaga in the fifth. In seven innings, he struck out 10 batters, walked two and reduced his earned run average to 1.58.

The Legends broke through in the eighth inning against reliever David Trexler. Arteaga led off with a double and later scored on a ground out by Michael Hill. In the bottom of the ninth, Ryan O'Hearn walked, Elier

Hernandez singled, and both scored on Wander Franco's double.

Legends starter Corey Ray (0-2) was the losing pitcher.

Kannapolis has won two of the first three games in the series, which concludes Tuesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
