Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive (16-15) got back in the win column on Monday night, as a two-run, 7th inning single by Rafael Devers propelled them to a 5-4 victory over the Hagerstown Suns (14-16) to snap a five-game losing streak.
After Hagerstown tied the game at three in the seventh, the Drive responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Derek Miller sparked the inning with a single into left, which was followed by Jordan Procyshen's walk. Nick Longhi would load the bases with a single up the middle, and a two-RBI single, once again up the middle, from Devers would plate the two runs to put Greenville back on top.
Mario Alcantara acquired his second win of the season, in relief of Jeffry Fernandez, who allowed two runs in five innings. Kuehl McEachern entered the game in the eighth, and picked a runner off at first as he earned his third save.
The Suns would strike first, quickly scoring in the top of the first against Fernandez due to Grant DeBruin's sacrifice fly to deep center field, scoring Alec Keller from third base.
Osvaldo Abreu would lead off the top of the third inning with a double down the left field line. He moved to third base on a groundout and score on Matt Reistetter's groundout to second base.
Greenville began the battle back in the bottom of the third with a one-out single from Mike Meyers, followed up by a RBI double into deep left field from Derek Miller. Mauricio Dubon would draw a walk, then Procyshen knocked in Derek Miller with a single to tie the game up at two.
Javier Guerra would then break the tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo blast over the right field wall, his third of the season, to give the Drive the 3-2 lead.
Miller had a perfect day at the plate for the Drive, going 3-3 with a pair of walks, and Procyshen added two hits. Abreu and Austin Davidson had two hits apiece for Hagerstown.
The series wraps up with the Drive Business Downtown game at 2:05 PM on Tuesday afternoon. RH Michael Kopech (1-2, 3.86) will take the ball for the Drive, and the Suns will counter with RH Phillips Valdez (3-1, 1.38).
