Asheville Tourists News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ--The Asheville Tourists were handed a taste of their own medicine on Monday evening. Ricardo Pinto pitched the Lakewood BlueClaws to an 8-2 victory over Asheville and snapped the Tourists three-game winning streak in the process.

The Tourists did manage to take a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first. Forrest Wall blasted a triple to right-center and Drew Weeks scored Wall with a sacrifice fly to left. Lakewood answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom half. Two-out RBI base hits by Rhys Hoskins and Deivi Grullon put the home team in front 2-1.

Asheville's Randy Reyes tied the score with a lead-off Home Run in the third. The blast was Reyes' third Home Run of the season. Once again, the BlueClaws had an answer in the bottom of the frame. With a runner at first and one out, Cord Sandberg grounded into what appeared to be an inning-ending double play. Unfortunately, a Tourists throwing error allowed all runners to be safe. Lakewood managed to plate both players later in the inning to take a 4-2 lead.

The BlueClaws added one more in the fifth, two in the sixth, and a final run in the seventh. Damek Tomscha connected with a two-run Home Run as part of the six unanswered runs. Ryan Castellani suffered the loss for the Tourists but the starter did not allow an earned run. Scott Firth worked an inning and a third of scoreless baseball following Castellani.

Pinto finished with seven innings under his belt and gave up just four hits. The BlueClaws starter tallied eight strikeouts on the evening. No Tourist had more than one hit and only Sean Dwyer reached base more than once.

The Tourists still sport a 4-2 record on their current road trip and will attempt to finish it off in style with the series finale scheduled for 6:35pm Tuesday night.
