Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 11, 2015) - Jordan Guerrero struck out 10 batters, one shy of his career-high, over 7.0 scoreless innings to pitch the Intimidators past the Legends, 7-3, on Monday morning at Lexington's Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The left-hander kept the Legends off the board while lowering his ERA to 1.58, the lowest among South Atlantic League southpaws.

Kannapolis backed up Guerrero (4-0) with seven runs over the first three innings, and the Intimidators starter did the rest on his way to the win. He limited Lexington to two hits and two walks. Guerrero is the first Intimidators arm to record double-digit strikeouts since he fanned a career-high 11 batters on April 15 at Delmarva in the second game of a doubleheader.

Eddy Alvarez sparked the early offense for Kannapolis (13-17), drawing walks, stealing second base and scoring runs in both the first and second innings. The Olympic silver medalist added a 2-run single in the third as the Intimidators built a 7-0 lead. He finished 2-2 with a career-high three stolen bases, a career-high-tying three walks, two RBI, and a pair of runs scored.

Kannapolis converted a pair of first inning walks into a 2-0 lead as Alvarez and Christian Stringer scored on a Legends error and wild pitch, respectively. In the second, Ryan Leonards led off with a double and scored on a wild pitch. Michael Suiter added an RBI-double to plate Alvarez for a 4-0 advantage. The Intimidators plated three in the third as Brett Austin singled to score Louie Lechich to go up 5-0, and Alvarez later tacked on a 2-run base hit.

Legends starter Corey Ray (0-2) lasted just 3.0 innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts in a losing effort. Lexington reliever Collin Rodgers took over in the fourth and faced the minimum through the eighth. Rodgers spun 6.0 scoreless relief innings.

Kannapolis turned to David Trexler, who gave up a run in the eighth and faced the first three batters of the ninth inning before Lexington DH Wander Franco chased him from the game with a 2-run double. Matt Cooper took over and retired the next three batters, including two via strikeout, to slam the door.

The Intimidators look for a series win in Tuesday's finale at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Spencer Adams takes the mound for Kannapolis against Lexington's RHP Zach Lovvorn. The Intimidators return home for a 4-game series in Kannapolis May 14-17 against the Lakewood BlueClaws.
