Austin Wranglers News Release
AUSTIN-The Austin Wranglers trimmed their roster to 21 players over the weekend, in preparation for their Sunday, March 4 home opener against the Las Gladiators. Having broken camp on Friday, Wranglers Head Coach Brian Partlow and General Manager Glyn Milburn analyzed the players' performances during training camp and evaluated what personnel would be the best fit for this year's squad.
On Saturday the team waived DB Stephen Cason, DB Phillip Geiggar, DB Brandon Haw, FB/LB Torrance Heggie, OL Anthony Jones, QB Matt Kubik, OL Kyle Roper, OL Jason Russell, DL Durrand Roundtree, FB/LB Darnell Small and released WR Fred Coleman.
The team also waived WR Sakeen Wright and FB Akarika Dawn but the two players will be signed back to the Wranglers practice squad today.
Austin also claimed rookie OL Kimani Jones (6-4, 310, Arkansas State) off waivers from the New York Dragons. Due to injuries incurred during training camp, the team moved DB Deveron Harper and OL/DL Donovan Arp to injured reserve.
On Sunday, the team waived OL Roderick Green and kicker Todd Sievers, to make room for Jones and newly signed kicker Mark Lewis. Entering his fourth AFL season, Lewis (5-9, 180, Florida International), spent training camp with the Georgia Force and played in 2006 with the Columbus Destroyers.
As of today, the Wranglers have one quarterback on the roster in Adrian McPherson. The team plans to sign another quarterback this week, who will serve as the Wranglers backup for Sunday's game.
