Austin Wranglers News Release
AUSTIN- The Austin Wranglers wrapped up their regular season Saturday night against Southwest Division rival, the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings, at U.S. Army Field at the Frank Erwin Center. Falling behind early, the Wranglers were plagued by dropped passes and fumbles, which proved to be costly. Although Andy Hall set a personal record of seven touchdown passes in the game, it wasn't enough for the Wranglers and they fell at home to Bossier-Shreveport 65-54.
In the first three minutes of the game, the BattleWings found the endzone twice, both coming from the special teams. Following an Andy Hall touchdown pass to Sean Henley 56 seconds into the game, Bossier-Shreveport's Chavis McCollister returned the kickoff 57 yards for a touchdown and Pete McBride recovered a fumble in the endzone. John Roberson came alive in the second quarter, catching two touchdown passes and Henley adding another to bring the score to a 49-27 BattleWing lead at halftime.
Hall continued his solid game performance in the second half connecting with LeJuan Edwards for a 24 yard touchdown pass. Following a 31 yard pass from Gary Cooper to Chavis McCollister for a 31 yard touchdown, the Wranglers found themselves behind 56-33 entering into the forth quarter.
The Wranglers fought back closing the gap to be down 59-54 late in the forth behind the touchdown catches of Mel Long and John Roberson. With 55 seconds left on the clock, Jason Schule powered his way into the endzone for the BattleWings to secure the victory. With time expiring, the Wranglers fell short and lose to Bossier-Shreveport at home, 65-54.
The Wranglers will have to sit and wait until the rest of the af2 teams finish up their regular seasons this weekend to determine their playoff fate. Stay tuned to the Austin Wrangler website at www.austinwranglers.com for updates on the post season.
