Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

GRAND RAPIDS - With a mix of experienced Arena Football League veterans, talented rookies from the NFL and college ranks and an experienced coaching staff, the Grand Rapids Rampage are ready to begin their 10th Anniversary Season after announcing their active roster.

"This is the most talented roster I've had in my three years here with the Rampage," said Sparky McEwen, Grand Rapids head coach and director of football operations. "This roster has more depth up and down than in either of my previous two years. And, after limping into the 2006 season with injuries, we're healthy for the most part this year."

Among the veterans headlining the Rampage's 2007 roster are AFL standouts Timon Marshall (Kingston, Jamaica) and Chris Ryan (Lake Charles, La.). Marshall led the AFL and set a Grand Rapids team record with 2,734 all-purpose yards in 2006. The wide receiver became the first player in team history to record 1,300 receiving yards and 1,300 return yards in the same season, and became only the fourth Rampage player ever to be named to the AFL All-Ironman Team.

Ryan stands as one of the AFL's all-time leading rushers, ranking eighth all-time in carries (267) and sixth in rushing touchdowns (69). A two-time member of the AFL All-Ironman Team (2002 and 2004), the Rampage fullback led the team in 2006 with 96 rushing yards. Since 2000, no AFL player has scored more rushing touchdowns than Ryan.

Grand Rapids will showcase several exciting new faces in 2007 as well, including a pair of former NFL wide receivers, Troy Edwards (Shreveport, La.) and Scotty Anderson (Jonesboro, La.). The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Edwards with the 13th overall pick in the 1999 NFL draft following his record-breaking career at Louisiana Tech University. The NCAA's record holder in career receiving touchdowns went on to play seven seasons (1999-2005) in the NFL with the Steelers, the St. Louis Rams, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Detroit Lions. The AFL Writers' Association has selected Edwards as its preseason choice for AFL Rookie of the Year.

Anderson also boasts a successful collegiate career as Grambling State University's all-time leader in every major receiving category. He went on to play three seasons (2001-03) with the Detroit Lions and led the team in receiving yards in 2003 before suffering a season-ending injury midway through his final NFL campaign.

The Rampage will travel to Denver this weekend to kick off their 10th Anniversary Season against their Central Division rivals, the Colorado Crush. Then, on March 8, West Michigan can cheer on its very own AFL team for the first time in 2007 when Grand Rapids welcomes the Las Vegas Gladiators to Van Andel Arena.
