ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, was defeated in a shootout by the Las Vegas Wranglers, 7-6, on Friday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena before 5,303 fans.

Center Adam Miller put the Wranglers on the board early in the opening period when he broke away from the Ontario defenders and shot the puck five hole on Ontario netminder Curtis Darling. Left wing Ned Lukacevic assisted on the play at 2:29.

The Reign tied the game at 1-1 when right wing Sean O'Connor scored a power play goal 7:00 minutes into the first period. Jon Francisco set the play up when he passed the puck to O'Connor whose backhand shot beat Las Vegas goaltender Michael Ouzas.

Forward Greg Hogeboom gave the Reign a 2-1 lead when he wrapped the puck around the net and slipped it past Ouzas. Defenseman Michael Egener assisted on the goal at 3:23 in the second period.

Ontario center Tim Kraus scored his eleventh goal of the season when he redirected a slap shot from Egener past the goal line. Defenseman Andrew Martens helped set up the play and the Reign took a 3-1 lead.

A minute and a half later Mike Egener slap shot the puck past Ouzas. Martens picked up his second assist of the night and right wing Jon Rheault picked up an assist on his first game back with the Reign. Las Vegas pulled Michael Ouzas from the game and put in Joel Gistedt.

Defenseman Mike Madill redirected a shot from defenseman Chris Frank that crossed the goal line. Adam Miller picked up his second point of the night with an assist on the play and brought the score to 4-2 Reign.

Toward the end of the second period, Rheault passed the puck to O'Connor in the crease, who then shot it past Gistedt. O'Connor picked up his second goal of the night and Rheault picked up his second assist of the night.

In the third, the Wranglers' Chris Frank scored his first goal of the season when he shot the puck through Darling's legs. Left wing Mick Lawrence assisted on the play at 5:21 and brought the Wranglers within two goals.

Ontario's Hogeboom was awarded a penalty shot at 6:07 but was unable to beat Gistedt. Only 19 seconds later, Reign forward Michael Pelech found the back of the net and gave Ontario a 6-3 lead. Right wing Geoff Walker assisted on the goal and Egener picked up his fourth point of the night.

Wrangler's Mick Lawrence fired off a shot at 6:38 that beat Darling. A Las Vegas player was laying across the crease making it impossible for Darling to stretch over him and block the shot.

At 7:48, Las Vegas was awarded a penalty shot that Ned Lukacevic capitalized on and brought the Wranglers within one goal of the Reign.

The Wranglers tied the game at 6-6 at 13:25 when Lukacevic was able to put a puck up on Darling that bounced off his shoulder and into the net. Right wing Alex Bourret and defenseman Jason Krischuk assisted on the play.

Both teams were unable to win the game in regulation or in overtime. The game went into a 12 round shootout and Las Vegas was able to come out with the win with a final score of Wranglers 7, Reign 6 (SO).
