Atlanta Gladiators News Release

After two tough losses against the Everblades on this trip, the Gladiators looked to take the final two points on Saturday in Florida. The Gladiators found themselves trailing by two goals early in the contest, but scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead into the first intermission. The Everblades tied the game just 47 seconds into the third period, but Matt Francis struck on the Applebees power play to give Gwinnett the 4-3 victory.

The Everblades got out to a quick start in the contest, scoring their first goal of the game just 3:22 after the opening faceoff. With three seconds remaining on the power play, Scott Hotham fired a shot from the top of the slot. Ryan Lang provided traffic in front of the net, and tipped the shot just past Danny Taylor to give the Everblades the one goal lead.

Florida struck again to go up 2-0 at the 5:00 mark of the period. Matt Duffy made a long saucer pass from his own zone onto the stick of Brady Calla. Calla tipped a pass over to Colin Nicholson streaking up the right wall. Nicholson wristed a shot inside the right post to light the lamp for the second Everblades goal in the first five minutes of the game.

The Gladiators would cut Florida's lead in half just 46 seconds later on their first Applebees power play of the game. Tim Miller kicked the puck back to Mike McLean on the right half-boards. McLean quickly passed right back to Miller, and Miller found Matt Francis in the slot for the one-timer. Francis snuck his shot just underneath Chris Beckford-Tsu to cut the Florida lead to 2-1.

The Gladiators struck for a second man-advantage marker when Tom Zanoski tipped home a pass from Adam Berti. Berti attempted a pass to Dan Sullivan, but Sullivan had to move the pass right back to Berti. Berti skated towards the right corner and fired a pass to Zanoski on the top of the crease to tie the game at two.

Gwinnett struck for their third goal 2:03 later to take their first lead of the game. Drew Paris made a great play to hold the puck in the zone. Paris found a shooting lane and ripped a slap shot towards the net. Dan Sullivan was providing a screen in front of Beckford-Tsu, and he tipped the blast from Paris through the five-hole giving the Gladiators a 3-2 lead.

Neither team scored in the second period, as the Gladiators were not able to make use of three Applebees power plays in the period.

The Everblades evened the score just 47 seconds into the third period. Brandon Buck brought the puck along the right side in the Gwinnett defensive end. Buck fired a pass into the slot, and Ross Carlson connected on a no-look spin-o-rama goal and just snuck a shot inside the left post.

The Gladiators grabbed the lead back at the 5:32 mark of the third, once again on the Applebees power play. Drew Paris worked the puck in to Scott Mifsud on the right wing boards. Mifsud quickly fired a pass to Matt Francis, and Francis blasted a shot past Beckford-Tsu and into the back of the net.

The Gladiators improved to 27-26-4-2 and Florida fell to 32-20-4-5. Gwinnett finished 3-9 on the Applebees power play while the Everblades connected on 1 of 4 chances.
