Stockton, CA - The Las Vegas Wranglers® (26-24-6, 58 points) were defeated by the Stockton Thunder (25-25-5, 55 points) 3-2 in front of 3,635 fans on Wednesday night at the Stockton Arena. Stockton's Cory Urquhart scored the eventual game-winning goal at 9:29 of the second period. Las Vegas is now winless in the last eight games (0-6-2), after rattling off eight straight wins. Wranglers forwards Peter Ferraro and Tim Spencer scored as the team fell to 11-14-4 on the road this season. Stockton's David Rohlfs and Damian Surma also scored as the Thunder ended a four-game losing streak. Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher stopped 33 of 36 Thunder shots in the defeat. Stockton's Andrew Perugini stopped 26 of 28 Las Vegas shots. Las Vegas will play in Ontario this Saturday at 7:00 PM.
Las Vegas jumped out to a 1-0 first period lead just 41 seconds into the game on Peter Ferraro's 13th goal of the season. Wranglers' forward Hugo Carpentier snapped a cross-ice pass to Ferraro, who blasted a one-timer past Stockton goalie Andrew Perugini for the early lead. The Thunder answered back with a tally at 4:46 by right wing David Rohlfs, tying the game 1-1. Rohlf's fifth goal of the season beat Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher on the blocker side. Stockton pushed ahead of Las Vegas before the end of the first period. Forward Damian Surma snapped a wrist shot past the glove of Fisher at 15:30, giving the Thunder a 2-1 lead after one period of play.
In the second period, winger Cory Urquhart picked off the puck at the Las Vegas blue-line and carried the puck into the Las Vegas zone. Urquhart scored his 23rd goal of the season at 9:29 of the middle period for a 3-1 Stockton lead.
In the third period, Las Vegas trimmed the Stockton lead to one goal with Tim Spencer's fourth goal of the season at 11:35. Center Tyler Mosienko and Sean Owens set up the tally that cut the Thunder lead to 3-2.
The Wranglers continue on a ten-game road trip with their next stops in Ontario this Saturday at 7:00 PM. Las Vegas will make stops in Bakersfield and Alaska before hosting the Idaho Steelheads on March 13th and 14th at 7:30 PM at the Orleans Arena.
