Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalance and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today the final results of the first-ever "Face Off Against Hunger" event from last Sunday.

The Chiefs teamed up with the Rotary Club of Johnstown to host the "Face Off Against Hunger" event in an attempt to raise funds and gather food donations for local food banks and pantries. The results of the drive far exceeded expectations as the Chiefs and Rotary were able to collect 1,117 pounds of food and $1,920 in cash donations for a total contribution of nearly $4,400 that will benefit Food for Families and other local food banks and pantries.

"The first ever Face Off Against Hunger was a huge success. About 150 Rotarians (from as far away as Washington, PA and Uniontown, PA) of all ages (18 months and up) had a blast. Not only did they come and enjoy the game, the buffet and the fellowship, but they also continued to make donations in cash or food items. We also received a large amount of food donations from Chiefs fans who attended the game, said Ivar Berge of the Rotary Club of Johnstown.

"Rotary is extremely grateful for the generous support of the public and the Chiefs organization. We can't wait to set a date for next year," added Berge.

"The Johnstown Chiefs would like to extend their thanks to Ivar and Mary Berge, Greg Petrilla, all of the Rotarians who came out, and all of the Chiefs fans who supported the first-ever 'Face Off Against Hunger' event. Without everyone's generosity and hard work we wouldn't have been able to achieve the level of success that we did," said General Manager and Vice President Bill Bredin.

Mark your calendars! The Chiefs are back on home ice on Wednesday, March 4th against the Wheeling Nailers on Pups and Pucks Night.
