Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Stockton, CA - The Las Vegas Wranglers (16-2-2, 33 points) defeated the Stockton Thunder (9-11-2, 20 points) 2-1 at the Stockton Arena on Saturday night. Center Tyler Mosienko scored a shorthanded goal just 3:18 into the third period for the one-goal victory. Las Vegas goalie John Ceci stopped 29 of 30 Stockton shots for the win. Wranglers center Chris Ferraro also scored as Las Vegas tied for the ECHL league lead with their 16th win of the season. Las Vegas will play in Utah on Wednesday at 6:05 pm.
After outshooting Stockton the majority of the first period, Las Vegas came way scoreless after Tim Boron stopped all 14 shots. The Thunder were awarded a five-minute major power play after Wranglers forward Brandon Kaleniecki was whistled for elbowing Stockton's Ryan MacMurchy at 16:39. Thunder forward Ryan O'Mara snapped home his ninth goal of the season just 49-seconds after the power play began, giving Stockton a 1-0 lead after one period of play.
In the second period, Las Vegas tied the game at one with a power-play goal by Chris Ferraro at 11:45. Defenseman Mike Madill played the puck down-low as Ferraro re-directed his sixth goal of the season past Boron, knotting the game at one after two periods of play. The second period featured a line-brawl that led to multiple altercations. Las Vegas defenseman Tyson Strachan and left wing Shawn Limpright were both ejected, as Stockton's Geoff Paukovich and L.P. Lachance were both ejected for the Thunder. After the ejections, the Wranglers were left with 11 skaters, while the Thunder had 12 skaters remaining for the rest of the game.
In the third period, Las Vegas took a 2-1 lead with a great individual effort by center Tyler Mosienko. With Chris Ferraro in the penalty box for cross checking, Mosienko beat Stockton defender Brian Lee one-on-one, then lifted a shorthanded goal past Tim Boron at 3:18 for the one-goal advantage.
Las Vegas will head to Utah for three games starting on Wednesday at 6:05 pm (PST) at the E-Center. Las Vegas will return home to host Phoenix at the annual Midnight Holiday Roundup on Monday, December 17th at 11:59 pm.
