WHEELING, WV - The Elmira Jackals scored three power-play goals en route to a 5-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers, Sunday evening at WesBanco Arena.

Sean Collins, returned from a muscle pull after missing the last eight games, and David Laliberte was reassigned by Philadelphia just before the game. Those two combined for the first goal of the game in the dying seconds of the first period. While on the power play, Collins waited behind the Jackals goal before sending a pass to Laliberte for his seventh goal of the season at 19:49. It extends Laliberte's goal scoring streak to five games.

The Jackals responded in the opening minutes of the second. Chaz Johnson slammed home the rebound of a Benoit Doucet shot at 1:15 of the middle period.

Johnson had as much to do with the second goal as he did the first but was not noted for it on the score sheet. As Johnson went to the goal hard in search of a rebound he crashed into goaltender Ray Jean, knocking him to the ice. As Jean hurried to get up he was slowed by Johnson, who was still in the crease, allowing enough time for Trevor Hendrixx to pick up the puck and shoot it into the open net at 7:26. The goal was allowed and stood as the eventual game winner.

Elmira added another tally at 16:59 of the period. Bryan Rodney launched his first of two goals on a slap shot from the blue line. Scott May fed him the puck in the center of the ice and he blasted it past Jean on the power play.

The Jackals added two power-play goals in the third period. Jekabs Redlihs lifted a rebound over Jean at 3:28 and Rodney, who finished with two goals and two assists, blasted one home at 17:36.

Jean made 33 saves in his professional debut while Joel Martin stopped 24 for his 11th win of the season.

The Nailers visit the Dayton Bombers on Friday at 7pm and return home Saturday for a game with the Cincinnati Cyclones. The game will be played at 8pm and televised live on WTOV9.
