Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska raced to a 6-0 lead after the first 28 minutes Saturday, then coasted to a three-game sweep of Bakersfield with a 7-2 pummeling before 6,251 at Sullivan Arena.

The Aces had been 0-for-34 on the power play over their last six games coming into the series finale, but scored on their first four opportunities Saturday, beginning with F.P. Guenette's second goal in as many nights at 8:08 of the first period. Bo Cheesman scored the first of his two goals with the man advantage with 1:19 left in the frame, and just 35 seconds later, a centering pass by Cam Keith was re-directed home by Barrett Heisten, the first of his two tip-ins and a goal that chased Condors starter Jamie Hodson, who stopped only three of six shots in the period.

Hodson's replacement, Yutaka Fukufuji, fared far worse, allowing three goals on the first four shots he faced in the second period. Cheesman's second goal of the game, and his 11th of the season (second on the team) increased the margin to 4-0 at 3:30, and 44 seconds later, Gino Guyer scored his first goal since suffering a season-ending knee injury at Victoria last December. Heisten's second goal of the night and his seventh of the year ended the competitive phase of the game at 7:53, although Kevin Truelson finally put Bakersfield on the board with a power play goal three minutes later, leaving the score 6-1 after two.

Justin Chwedoruk, a training camp cut by the Aces last season, scored midway through the third period to bring the Condors within 6-2, but a goal by Josh Soares, his team-leading 14th of the season with 1:59 remaining, capped a turnaround night for Alaska's power play, which finished 5-for-8. Kris Tebbs picked up his first win as an Ace with 22 saves between the pipes. The seven goals made a winner out of Michael Kasnick, who earned a trip for two to Las Vegas, courtesy of KeyBank with airfare provided by USTravel.

Alaska improves to 13-8-1 overall and has won seven straight at home, while Bakersfield (5-13-5) has just two wins in its last 19 games. The Aces practice Monday before welcoming Stockton for a two-game set at Sullivan Arena Tuesday and Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. Alaska owns a 1-1-1 record against the Thunder this season but is 6-0 lifetime in Anchorage head-to-head. All regular season games are broadcast live on Alaska's flagship station, AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
