Stockton, CA - The Las Vegas Wranglers (26-9-11, 63 points) defeated the Stockton Thunder (21-14-9, 51 points) 2-1 at the Stockton Arena on Sunday night. Goalie Kevin Nastiuk made 27 saves in his fourth straight victory, holding the Thunder off the scoreboard for all but 45-seconds of the game. Defenseman Aaron Power and center Derek Edwardson each scored as the team took over sole possession of the first place in the Pacific Division. Las Vegas will head home for a tilt with the Alaska Aces Tuesday at 7:05 pm at the Orleans Arena.
In the first period, Las Vegas jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two power-play goals late in the opening period. The first goal came off the stick of Derek Edwardson at 16:24 for the 1-0 lead. Edwardson redirected a Scott Schoneck shot from the right point, elevating the puck past Devan Dubnyk. Las Vegas scored another power-play goal with 1:15 remaining in the first period. This time, Schnoeck set up a one-time blast for Aaron Power, who ripped the puck into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. Power's goal extended his scoring streak to four straight games and marked his third goal in his last four games.
After a scoreless second period, the Thunder scored with only 45-seconds remaining to break Kevin Nastiuk's shutout bid. Former Wrangler Mike Lalonde beat Nastiuk for his 21st of the season at 19:15 for the final score of 2-1.
The Wranglers will return home to host the Alaska Aces at 7:05 pm on Tuesday, February 13th at the Orleans Arena.
