South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Goaltender Davis Parley made 36 saves to record his second shutout of the season and league-leading 24th win of the campaign to backstop the South Carolina Stingrays to their eighth straight home win by defeating the Texas Wildcatters 3-0 before 3,297 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"I am very happy with our team's performance," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "It started with timely saves from Parley and a solid power play carried us to the win. We will try to continue our home success with three consecutive home games next weekend against division rivals."
After a scoreless first period, South Carolina (26-18-3, 55 points) erupted for three power play goals. T.J. McElroy beat goaltender Matthew Yeats at 1:48 of the second, on a shot from the high slot to connect for his fifth goal of the year. Stephen Werner and Chris Chaput garnered assists.
Chaput tucked home his 15th tally of the campaign on another man advantage at 15:43 from Brendan Bernakevitch and Peter Szabo making it 2-0 for the Stingrays.
South Carolina built up a 3-0 lead by netting its third power play goal of the period. Cail MacLean slid a turnaround shot into the back of the net for his 18th marker of the campaign. Helpers went to Jarrett Konkle and Evan Schwabe.
Texas (27-14-8, 62 points) threatened in the third period with 15 shots on Parley, who was making his 22nd straight start, but couldn't beat the Stingrays netminder.
South Carolina went 3-for-12 with the man advantage, while Texas failed to convert on seven opportunities. Shots were tied 36-36.
The Stingrays continue their five-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. on Friday against the Charlotte Checkers at the North Charleston Coliseum. It's Pink in the Rink Night as the Stingrays wear special pink jerseys to be auctioned following the game with the proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society.
