February 6, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - Trailing 1-0 early in the first period, the Colorado Eagles hammered home three straight goals to take down Las Vegas 3-1 on Wednesday night. After not playing in last night's loss, Adam Hughesman had the lone goal for Las Vegas, his 13th of the year, as the Wranglers dropped their eighth game in the past 11 contests.
For Hughesman, the scoring engine got going early as he and Carlo Finucci teamed up beat goaltender Adam Brown 4:34 into the first period, pushing Finucci's team-leading assist total to 18. Charlie Cook (11) also added an assist on the score, giving him three points in the last two games (1G, 2A).
Colorado would answer back late in the frame with Trent Daavettila scoring his second goal in as many games and 19th of the season with just 50.8 seconds left in the first. Kevin Young (22) chipped in with the assist, as well as Luke Fulghum (17), who finished with two points on the night.
It would be all Eagles early on in the second period, as Brock Nixon scored his second goal of the season to give Colorado a 2-1 lead with assists from Jesse Mychan (5) and Greg Gardner (13). The score came 3:10 into the frame and just 39 seconds later, Alex Hudson (9) would make it a 3-1 game thanks to help from Daniel Johnston (15) and Kyle Kraemer (12). Despite nearly five straight minutes of power-play time, including a short five-on-three, the Wranglers were unable to cut into the 3-1 lead before the period came to a close.
Colorado would add one more goal late in the third period as Luke Fulghum buried his 20th of the year to make it 4-1 Eagles. For Fulghum, the score was his third in the last two games, with assists from Daavettila (30) and Kyle Ostrow (29). Eagles' goaltender Adam Brown piled up 28 saves in the victory, his third straight win against Las Vegas.
Not only did the Wranglers suffer their third straight loss, but Vegas' forwards Robbie Smith and Matt Tassone both had to be helped off the ice in the third period. Smith exited following an ugly knee-to-knee collision early in the frame, while Tassone left with an apparent head injury after falling hard during his bout with Colorado's Daniel Johnston. Neither returned to action.
Next up, the Wranglers will take on the Utah Grizzlies in back-to-back games this weekend, Friday Feb. 7 and Saturday Feb. 8. Then the Bakersfield Condors come to town on Sunday, Feb. 9, capping off Las Vegas' seven game home-stand.
