Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today that goaltender Mark Owuya has agreed to terms with the team for the 2012-13 season.
Owuya ("Oh-woo-ya"), 23, signed a two-year entry level contract with the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs in 2011 after four seasons (2007-11) overseas in Sweden. The Stockholm native brings 23 games of American Hockey League experience to the Wranglers, going 11-5-1 with the Toronto Marlies in 2011-12 for a 1.94 goals-against average and 0.929 save percentage, and appearing in net for the team four times this season (2-2-0, 3.79 GAA, 0.833 save percentage).
"We are excited to have Mark join us as he is a highly regarded prospect who is extremely committed," said Wranglers Head Coach and General Manager Ryan Mougenel. "He has a very bright future in the game and we look forward to helping him get quality minutes. The Toronto Maple Leafs have been excellent to work with and we are happy to give Mark a place to grow his game."
The 6-foot-2, 207-pound netminder has previously played 25 games in the ECHL with the Reading Royals, winning 16 games last season for a 2.63 GAA and 0.930 save percentage. Owuya also won a silver medal playing for Sweden in the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation's World Junior Championships, and a bronze medal in 2007's IIHF World Under-18 Championships.
The Wranglers' next home game is tonight, Dec. 16, as the puck drops against the Bakersfield Condors at 11:59 p.m. for the team's 10th annual Midnight Game. Fans are encouraged to "black out" at the arena by wearing dark clothing, and Tony Clifton will perform throughout the night.
Celebrating 10 seasons of Wranglers hockey this year, group events are available at all home games, including pre-game ice skating parties, private luxury suites, and rink-side catered party boxes. Groups of ten or more can sit together starting at $13 per ticket, and feature perks such as in-game group recognition and "buy one, get one free" Chuck-A-Puck vouchers. Take advantage of the best deals by calling the Wranglers front office at (702) 471-PUCK . The Wranglers play all 36 regular season home games at Orleans Arena, located next to the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
