Wranglers Add Armstrong, Ischi to Roster
December 3, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers announced Tuesday that center John Armstrong has been acquired by the team in a trade with the Kalamazoo Wings in exchange for future considerations. The Wranglers have also added forward Phillip Ischi to the roster.
Armstrong, 25, has posted 12 goals and 33 assists in two seasons with the Wings. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound center made his ECHL debut with the Utah Grizzlies in 2011-12, recording eight goals and 12 assists on his way to an American Hockey League call-up to the Abbotsford Heat. The Toronto native brings 177 games of AHL experience to the Wranglers, collecting 16 goals and 28 assists over four seasons (2008-12) with the Heat and Quad City Flames. Armstrong was also a 3rd round NHL draft pick by the Calgary Flames in 2006.
"John is a player with a bunch of experience," said Wranglers Head Coach and General Manager Mike Madill. "He's played a lot of games at a very high level, and he's a big body who plays hard and can score goals."
Ischi (pronounced "E-shee"), 27, has an assist in three games with the Wranglers this season. Currently in his third stint with the team, the 5-foot-10, 181-pound forward has previously donned a Las Vegas sweater in 2010-11 and 2011-12, registering two assists. Originally from Kenai, Ala., Ischi has 64 games of overseas experience under his skates, primarily from four seasons (2006-09, 2012-13) in Switzerland.
"Phillip is a very hungry player, a guy who brings a lot of energy and speed," said Madill. "He finishes every hit, and that drive is what we need."
After five weeks of road games, the Wranglers return home on Friday, Dec. 6, to take on the Bakersfield Condors at 7:05 p.m. The Smithereens will perform a post-game concert, and on Sunday, Dec. 8, the annual Teddy Bear Toss returns to Orleans Arena at 2:05 p.m. Fans can bring a new stuffed animal to toss on the ice after the first Wranglers goal to benefit Sunrise Acres Elementary School.
