Recap of the Week
The Road Warriors finished their four-game road trip in Orlando last week with a pair of games on Tuesday and Thursday.
The Road Warriors played their first game against the Solar Bears on Tuesday, November 26th and were shutout by a score of 1-0. Netminder Connor Knapp had 28 saves in the game to improve his already stellar save percentage.
The Road Warriors faced off against the Solar Bears again on Thanksgiving night. Greenville took the lead in the second period when Brandon Hynes scored an unassisted power play goal. The Solar Bears scored three unanswered goals to hand the Road Warriors their third consecutive loss. Despite outshooting Orlando 42-29, the Road Warriors fell by a score of 3-1. Goalie Scott Stajcer made his season debut with the Road Warriors after being assigned from Hartford.
Week Ahead
The Road Warriors will begin a four-game home stretch starting this week. Greenville will face the Kalamazoo Wings on Thursday and Saturday, along with the Gwinnett Gladiators on Sunday.
On Thursday, December 5th the Road Warriors will face off against the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:00 p.m. The Road Warriors are 7-10-2 heading into the game. The Kalamazoo Wings are 7-6-2 and are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss against the South Carolina Stingrays. Throwback Thursday returns presented by New Rock 93.3 The Planet. Fans can enjoy $2 beers, hot dogs, sodas, and pretzels! Also, any fan who presents their BI-LO Bonus Card receives a buy-one get one free ticket while supplies last. In addition, any student who presents a student ID at the box office can purchase a Green level ticket for just $5.
The Road Warriors and the Wings will play each other again Saturday, December 7th at 7:00 p.m.
On Sunday, December 8th, the Road Warriors will face the Gwinnett Gladiators at 3:00 p.m. The last time the teams met in Greenville, The Road Warriors won in a shootout by the score of 2-1. Sunday is Epilepsy Awareness Day. To help raise money and awareness for Epilepsy, a silent auction will take place on the concourse during the game. Items to be auctioned include autographed music, movie and sports memorabilia, jewelry, gift certificates and more with all proceeds benefiting South Carolina Advocates for Epilepsy (S.A.F.E.). Fans can also stay after the game to watch Greenville North vs. Greenville South in a high school hockey game at the Bons Secours Wellness Arena! Sundays are also Family Fun Days with the Warriors! Kid's meals are only $5 and BI-LO shoppers can use their Bonus Cards to get up to four free tickets in the BI-LO Family Fun Section while supplies last (a $52 vaule).
Streaks and Stats
Brandon Hynes leads the Road Warriors in points (12) and is tied for sixth in the league among rookies with six goals. Jordie Johnston is tied for sixth in the league with 64 shots on goal. The Road Warriors' penalty kill is ranked second in the ECHL with a 91.6%. Goaltender Connor Knapp leads the league with a .942 save percentage. The Road Warriors are sixth in the league with an average of 2.37 goals against a game. Greenville is averaging 31.37 shots a game which is sixth in the ECHL.
Transactions
On Saturday, the New York Rangers recalled forwards Josh Nicholls and Michael St. Croix to Hartford. Nicholls played in 16 games for the Road Warriors and registered two goals and two assists during that time. Michael St. Croix returned to the Road Warriors from Hartford on November 15th. He played in eight games for the Road Warriors upon his return and notched one goal and one assist.
The New York Rangers assigned goaltender Scott Stajcer to the Road Warriors and Hartford recalled rookie goaltender Jeff Malcolm on Wednesday.
