
Worcester Sharks Announce 2010-11 Opening Night Roster

WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks General Manager Wayne Thomas announced the opening night roster for the Worcester Sharks as they prepare to kick-off their fifth season in Bridgeport, CT against the Sound Tigers on Saturday night at 7pm.
The Worcester Sharks regular season roster is comprised of 23 players; two goaltenders, seven defensemen, and 14 forwards.
Some of the interesting facts from the 2010-11 regular season roster include:
* 16 players return to the roster from the regular season Atlantic Division championship team including four 20 goal scorers (DaSilva, Mashinter, Trevelyan, and Zalewski) and team MVP Alex Stalock.
* Nine rookies, including three from UMASS-Amherst (Braun, Irwin, and Marcou) will don the teal and white this fifth season of hockey in Worcester.
* Three veterans will provide leadership for the Sharks squad this season, which include: former Maurice Richard winner Jonathan Cheechoo, former Boston Bruins defenseman Jay Leach, and the leading goal scorer for the Sharks from last season, T.J. Trevelyan.
* Six Worcester Sharks players were drafted by the San Jose Sharks. (Braun, Cheechoo, Lucia, Petrecki, Stalock, and Zalewski)
* Three Massachusetts born players (Ferriero, Quirk, Sullivan) are among 14 American born players while nine players are Canadian.
* Two of the three crazed rats are back to begin the 2010-11 season (Desjardins and DaSilva) with John McCarthy starting the year with the San Jose Sharks.
In addition, head coach Roy Sommer returns for his 13th season behind the bench of San Jose's top development affiliate and is currently the longest tenured coach in the AHL. Sommer is joined by assistant coach David Cunniff for the ninth consecutive season.
