Canucks Acquire Defenceman Nathan Paetsch from Panthers

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired defenceman Nathan Paetsch from the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenceman Sean Zimmerman.

Paetsch, 27, split the 2009.10 season with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Buffalo Sabres. He registered two points (1-1-2) in 11 games with Buffalo and six penalty minutes in 10 games with Columbus. In 167 NHL games, the 6'1", 198 lbs. defenceman has registered 42 points (7-35-42), 114 penalty minutes and has a plus-12 rating.

The Humboldt, SK native was originally selected by Washington 52nd overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He re-entered the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and was then selected 202nd overall by Buffalo.

Zimmerman, 23, finished the 2009.10 season with nine points (2-7-9) and 105 penalty minutes in 72 games played with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. The 6'2", 200 lbs. defenceman was originally selected by New Jersey 170th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired March 3, 2010 by Vancouver along with a conditional sixth round draft selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (Alex Friesen) from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Mathieu Schneider.
