Amerks Home Opener Could Get 'Chippy'
October 7, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, October 7)... The Rochester Americans Mascots, The Moose and R. Thunder, will make their 2010-11 season debuts on Sunday as the Amerks play their home opener against the Hershey Bears at The Blue Cross Arena. It might, however, be more appropriate to have Cookie Monster in attendance as the Girl Scouts of Western New York sell their famous cookies.
Fans can purchase vouchers for Girl Scout Cookies at the tables throughout the arena. The boxes, which cost $3.50 each, can be picked upon exiting the arena. Some of the varieties include Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos and much more.
The Blue Cross Arena has become a focal point for the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts this season. The Boy Scouts used the downtown facility for their popcorn kickoff in September. The Amerks will entertain both groups on Scout Night, which will take place on Saturday, November 20th. The Boy Scouts will hold their annual Sleepover, while the Girl Scouts will sell cookies that night as well.
"The Girl Scouts are a long standing institution just like the Rochester Americans," said Americans President Lewis Staats. "We are proud to be their partner and support their fundraising efforts by selling their famous Girl Scout cookies at our home opener on Sunday October 10th."
Cindy L. Odom, Chief Executive Office of the Girl Scouts of Western New York, is also excited about the partnership with the Amerks.
"We commend the Amerks for their much appreciated efforts to help the Girl Scouts of Western New York provide assistance to families and children in need," said Odom. "Amerks hockey is a great family night out and we look forward to making the games on Oct. 10 and Nov. 20 that much more enjoyable by giving fans an opportunity to purchase Girl Scouts cookies, and at the same time, make a donation to the children's feeding programs at Foodlink. We also invite all fans to stop by our Girl Scouts booth on November 20th to enter to win 'Milk and Cookies' for a year from Upstate Farms Milk."
Rochester will make its home debut on Sunday, October 10th when the Amerks host the back-to-back Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears at 5:05 p.m. as part of the American Hockey League's 75th Anniversary celebration. Everyone in attendance that night will take home a 2010-11 Amerks magnet schedule, courtesy of M&T Bank. Tickets can be purchased at The Blue Cross Arena Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations and all Wal-Mart outlets, by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 or the Amerks Office at (585) 454-5335.
