June 24 Recap
Friday, June 24th, 2011
Worcester 7, Pittsfield 6
Worcester scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 7-6 win against Pittsfield in game one of a doubleheader. The Tornadoes led Pittsfield 5-0 before Pittsfield scored its first run in the top of the fifth inning. The Colonials scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a one-run lead, but Worcester scored two of its own in the seventh to edge Pittsfield. Second baseman Abraham Nunez was the only Tornado to record multiple hits in the game, and Nunez led Worcester with two hits, one run and one RBI in four at-bats. Pittsfield shortstop Matt Nandin went 3-for-3 and scored a run for the Colonials. Rick Asadoorian earned his first win of the season, allowing three hits, four runs and striking out two in one inning pitched.
Worcester vs. Pittsfield - game two of the doubleheader
Delayed due to rain, Pittsfield leads 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning
New York 3, Rockland 2
Shortstop Alex Bardeguez hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to help fuel New York past Rockland, 3-2. New York scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, and Rockland had one in the first and fourth to tie the score. After three scoreless frames, Bardeguez's homer was the winning run for the Federals in the eighth inning. New York third baseman Brad Jackson went 3-for-3 against Rockland, and Bardeguez batted in two runs for the Federals. No Boulder recorded more than one hit. Jon Shepard earned his first win of the season, allowing one hit, no runs and striking out two in two innings pitched. Shepard is now 1-3 on the season.
Newark vs. Quebec - still in progress
New Jersey 4, Brockton 3
Designated hitter Mike Jones' two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning helped New Jersey top Brockton 4-3. New Jersey's leadoff hitter, second baseman Argenis Reyes, hit a home run in the top of the first inning to give the Jackals a 1-0 lead, but Brockton tied the score with a run of its own in the bottom of the fourth inning. Reyes had four hits, one run and two RBI in five at-bats to lead New Jersey, and the Jackals had 10 hits in the game. Pinch hitter Trey Hernandez batted in a run for the Rox when he doubled in the bottom of the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough to help Brockton earn a victory. Shaun Ellis, who is now 3-0 on the season, earned the win by allowing six hits, one run, and striking out two in six innings pitched.
