FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers, Class A Advanced MiLB affiliate of the Houston Astros, are thrilled to extend the opportunity for a five-year old boy from Lumberton, NC to be a Woodpecker for the day.

Jacob Moore was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma three weeks after turning 2 years old on August 5, 2015. Since being diagnosed, he has bravely endured chemotherapy, surgeries, two stem cell transplants, and other pediatric cancer treatments. "In scouting potential players, the Houston Astros seek individuals that exhibit courage, strength, and perseverance," said Mark Zarthar, President of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. "Jacob embodies the perfect Astro and we are elated that he will be joining the Woodpeckers here in Fayetteville."

Jacob will sign a one-day contract with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers this afternoon. He will wear the number 5 on his uniform and has been added to the roster for tonight's game. "When we learned of Jacob's courageous battle, we wanted to do something special for him and his family," said David Lane, Woodpeckers' General Manager. "This will be Jacob's first baseball game, and we hope to make it the best."

Some of his activities for the day include practicing with the team, a private tour of Segra Stadium, and delivering the game ball for tonight's matchup against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 7pm.
