Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg, Va. - The Lynchburg Hillcats, Advanced-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, are excited to announce that third baseman Nolan Jones will be participating in the 2019 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 7 at 7 p.m in Cleveland. The Futures Game, now in its 21st season as part of All-Star week in Major League Baseball,

features some of Minor League Baseball's top prospects. Outfielder Daniel Johnson, who is currently playing with Triple-A Columbus, will join Jones as the other Indians representative in the Futures Game.

Jones is batting .289 with six home runs and 36 RBI through 70 games with the Hillcats this season. He has also walked 59 times, good for a 20.1 percent walk rate, which leads the Carolina League and all of affiliated Minor League Baseball. Overall, he is slashing .289/.439/.417 with a .855 OPS. The 21-year-old was named a CL Mid-Season All-Star for the first time in his career.

Selected by the Indians in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Holy Ghost Prep High School (PA), Jones received his first action with Lynchburg as part of a late season call-up on August 2 of last season. He helped lead the Hillcats to their seventh consecutive playoff berth in 2018, hitting .298 with three homers and 17 RBI as the club clinched the second half North Division title.

Entering the 2019 campaign, Jones was rated as the No. 2 prospect in the Tribe's farm system by both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. He was also tabbed by the outlets as the No. 46 prospect in all of Minor League Baseball.

Jones and Johnson will participate on the American League side of the Futures Game as part of a new format. The last 20 years featured a U.S. vs. World match-up. The game has also been adjusted to a seven-inning contest. Hall of Famer Jim Thome will manage the AL Futures Team, while four-time All-Star Dennis Martinez will guide the NL Futures Team.

Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB Pipeline, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to be selected.

The Hillcats continue their four-game series with Down East on Friday night at City Stadium. Left-hander Juan Hillman (3-6, 2.69) starts for Lynchburg and will be opposed by Woodies right-hander Josh Advocate (3-2, 3.15).
