Woodchucks Withstand Mallards Rally, Win 5-4

Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks held off the Madison Mallards 5-4, with the back end of the Woodchucks' bullpen denying the Mallards a late rally.

Tim McElroy and Austin Tribby shut down the Mallards in the eighth and ninth inning after the Mallards looked to breathe new life with three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

With the Woodchucks clinging to a 5-4 lead heading to the eighth inning, McElroy came into the game and struck out two batters killing any momentum that the Mallards brought into the inning. Austin Tribby then came on in the ninth inning to earn his second save of the year as he struck out two batters in the ninth with the tying run on first base.

The Woodchucks started the game with four unanswered runs to start the game. The first two runs coming in the first inning with RBI singles from both Paul DeJong and Jake Scudder.

DeJong then tacked on another run in the third inning with his second hit of the game this time a double down the left field line bringing in Taylor Kohlwey.

With the Woodchucks leading 5-1, the Mallards scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning thanks to four straight hits to lead off the inning.

The back end of the Woodchucks bullpen did their job and shut the Mallards down for the remainder of the game.

The Woodchucks will have a rare day game tomorrow when the Green Bay Bullfrogs come to Athletic Park. First pitch is set for 1:05. The Woodchucks and Bullfrogs will then travel to Green Bay to finish a home and home double header beginning at 7:05.
