Green Bay Rockers News Release
Battle Creek, Mich. - A three-run eighth inning by the Battle Creek Bombers was too much to overcome for the Green Bay Bullfrogs on Tuesday night, as the Bullfrogs fell to the Bombers by a score of 4-3.
A three run bottom of the eighth, capped off by a two RBI single by Anthony Cheky (Michigan State) gave the Bombers the 4-2 lead on Tuesday. Cheky finished the game 3-for-5 with a stolen base.
The Bullfrogs rallied in the ninth with an RBI double by Bullfrog third baseman Dean Long (Emporia State). Long nearly scored the tying run later in the ninth inning but was gunned down at the plate by the Bombers left fielder, Brendan Collins (Columbus State). Long finished the ballgame 2-for-5 extending his on base streak to 20 games.
An Ivan Vieitez (Lenoir-Rhyne) two-out triple in the fourth inning that scored Matthew de la Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne) put the Bullfrogs on the board first. Vieitez finished the game 2-for-4.
Sebastian Diaz (Miami) tied the ballgame up at one for Battle Creek in the sixth inning with a double to deep right center. That double was the second of the game for Diaz who finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Bullfrogs then took the lead back in the eighth inning when Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State) singled home Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State). Jacobson and Bekakis both finished the game with one hit.
Earning the win for the Battle Creek Bombers was Garrett Anderson (St. Cloud State). Anderson threw 2.2 innings of relief and gave up two runs on four hits.
Picking up the loss for the Green Bay Bullfrogs was relief pitcher Cody Pollack (Midland). Pollack threw a third of an inning and gave up three runs on two hits.
Hunter Jobe (Pfeiffer University) got the final Bullfrogs out in the ninth inning to pick up the save for Battle Creek.
The Bullfrogs will now return back to the state of Wisconsin for a home-and-home double header on Wednesday against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Game one will be at 1:05 p.m. in Wausau, Wisconsin before the two teams play the night cap in Green Bay at Joannes Stadium. First pitch of game two is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
