Wausau Woodchucks News Release

WAUSAU - The Wisconsin Woodchucks got the tying run to first base but their ninth inning rally was cut short by the Duluth Huskies losing 4-3.

The Woodchucks broke the tie ball game in the bottom of the fourth inning as Rob Bennie came into score from a wild pitch by Huskies' starting pitcher Clay Chapman. Bennie reached base earlier in the inning as he hit a two-out triple off the left field wall.

The Huskies answered in the top of the fifth inning when Christopher Harvey came all the way from first to score off a double from Alex Wojciechowski to even the score 1-1.

The score remained tied until the top of the eighth inning when Michael Suiter came into score when Woodchucks' pitcher Taylor Chris' wild pitch went back to the backstop. The Huskies weren't done there as Brad Wilson scored on a ground ball under the glove of Woodchucks' first baseman Rob Bennie to give the Huskies a late 3-1 lead.

The Huskies got a very important insurance run in the top of the eighth inning when Conor Szczerba scored on a grounder to third that took a bad hop to get by Mikole Pierce to give the Huskies a 4-1 lead.

The Woodchucks tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth as John Menken hit a two-run home run to left-center field to now trail 4-3. With the tying run on first base, Northwoods League all-star closer Nate Carter struck out the final batter to give the Huskies a 4-3 win.

The Woodchucks will travel to Mequon to begin a two-game series against the Lakeshore Chinooks beginning on Friday night. The Woodchucks will return for their last home game of the season at Athletic Park on Sunday as they take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs. First pitch is set for 6:35 with gates opening at 5:35.
