
Extra Innings Gives Rox 6-5 Win over La Crosse

La Crosse, Wis. - The St. Cloud Rox and the La Crosse Loggers rounded out their series together Thursday night as they went into extra innings with the Rox prevailing 6-5.
The Loggers took an early 2-0 lead over the Rox in the bottom of the second as they scored off a two-run double on two outs by Mike Nadratowski.
La Crosse continued extending their lead in the fourth putting up another two runs to lead St. Cloud 4-0 as Nick Kanavas hit a two-run home run.
Vincent Jackson got the bats going in the top of the fifth posting a lead off double. Dustin Breshears followed reaching first on a sacrifice and then moving to second on an error by the third baseman scoring Jackson. With one out Blake Headley singled putting two runners on base. Clay Williamson was able to score Breshears making it a 4-2 game, as he was putout at first. A double by Devin Pearson brought the Rox within one as he scored Headley on the play.
Heading into the sixth the Rox trailed the Loggers 4-3 as Alex McRae came into the game to relieve Kyle Fischer from the mound and held La Crosse to three up and three down.
The Rox tied the game up in the seventh 4-4 as Tim Colwell led off the inning earning a walk on five pitches. Williamson was walked moving Colwell to second as the Rox had one out on the board. A single by Pearson would move Colwell and then score on an error by the pitcher.
St. Cloud held La Crosse scoreless in the eighth taking a 4-4 game into the top of the ninth where the Rox would take their first lead of the game. Colwell would start the inning with a one out single but was putout on a 1-3-6 play. Headley and Williamson followed each hitting singles to keep the inning alive with two outs. Pearson loaded the bases as he was walked on five pitches and then a Loggers wild pitch scored Headley from third for the lead.
The Loggers tied the game up again in the bottom of the ninth as Austin Rei hit a solo home run for a 5-5 game.
With the game tied up the Rox and Loggers headed to extra innings and it was not until the top of the 11th when the Rox took a 6-5 lead as a single by Williamson scored Colwell from first as he had reached on a single as well.
The Rox hold the Loggers to only one hit in the bottom of the 11th to hold on to a 6-5 lead for the win.
Starting on the mound for the Rox was Kyle Fischer as he pitched five innings striking out seven. Alex McRae also saw action on the mound pitching 3.2 innings and recording six strikeouts. Rox' Adam Maxon came in to close out the game as he posted 2.1 innings of work on the mound to earn the win taking his record to 3-3 on the season.
The St. Cloud Rox (30-30, 16-9 Second Half) will be back in action on Friday night as they welcome the Rochester Honkers to Joe Faber Field for a two game series. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with an amazing post-game fireworks display presented by HealthPartners Central Minnesota Clinics.
