Wausau Woodchucks News Release
Wausau, WIS - The Woodchucks came into tonight's game against the Rockford Rivets looking for an offensive burst after having trouble scoring runs on the six game road trip. As the team added four new players into lineup, The Chucks bats woke up and scored the most runs that they have all season long with seven.
After the Rivets took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second, Chucks designated hitter Isaac Quinones tied things up with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 3rd, Woodchucks third basemen Javier Valdes launched a two-run homer over the left field wall to give the team a 3-1 lead. The home run was Valdes's third of the season.
The Chucks added to that in the bottom of the 6th when centerfielder Zach DeLoach ripped a two run RBI double to push the lead to 5-1. This was DeLoach's first hit as a Woodchuck.
The Rivets added three runs in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 5-4 but Chucks catcher Dom DeRenzo added a huge two run shot in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-4 Chucks.
Chucks Starter Orsen Josephina was great once again going six innings, allowing just one run and striking out five batters.
After getting a great inning of relief from Zach De La Garza in the 8th, Chucks closer Lenny Gwizdala came in to shut the door down and give the team the 7-4 victory.
