Wolves Start Slow, Fall 6-4 to Texas

ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves fell into a 2-0 hole three minutes into the game and that proved to be the difference as they dropped a 6-4 decision to the Texas Stars Friday night at the Allstate Arena.
Right wing Darren Haydar scored twice and assisted on the other two markers for Chicago, which saw its four-game winning streak snapped. Forwards Michael Davies (G, A) and Andrew Gordon (G, A) and defenseman Brad Hunt (2A) also notched multiple points for the Wolves (18-13-3-2).
"We got off to a terrible start tonight," said Wolves head coach Scott Arniel. "When we decided to start working we ended up playing two decent periods of hockey, but it is hard to overcome a four-goal lead in hockey."
Texas (23-12-3-2) built a quick 2-0 lead with two goals in a 12-second span less than three minutes into the contest.
The Stars' first goal came at 2:47 when left wing Mike Hedden stick-handled to the front of the crease and was poke-checked by Wolves goaltender Matt Climie, but the puck bounced right to the stick of right wing Alex Chiasson and he snapped a shot over Climie's glove. Right wing Austin Smith gave Texas a 2-0 lead 12 seconds later when he fired a one-timer from the slot into the back of the net as Climie was leaning the wrong way.
Chiasson's second tally of the night at 10:32 and center Toby Peterson's breakaway goal at 13:57 of the first gave Texas a 4-0 lead and sent Climie to the bench in favor of Joe Cannata.
Chicago got on the scoreboard while on the power play at 15:23 when Gordon redirected Hunt's shot from high slot past Stars goaltender Jack Campbell (6-5-2).
The Wolves pulled to within 4-2 when Davies tipped a Haydar shot past Campbell 81 seconds into the second period, but Chicago could get no closer as the teams traded goals the rest of the night.
Hedden scored on the power play for the Stars at 12:41 of the middle frame as his pass attempt jumped over the stick of a Wolves defender and bounced over Cannata's head.
Haydar answered with his first goal of the night as his wraparound attempt ricocheted off the leg of a Texas skater and squirted through Campbell's arm and body at 16:52.
Center Taylor Vause potted the Stars sixth and final goal 3:06 into the third period as he intercepted a Wolves breakout pass from behind the net and jammed the puck through Cannata's legs.
Cannata (1-1-0) stopped 12 of 14 shots in 43:48 of relief duty, while Climie posted seven saves on 11 shots.
Haydar's second goal of the night came at 9:34 of the final frame as he redirected Gordon's shot past Campbell (27 saves).
The Wolves will look to bounce back Saturday night as they host the Houston Aeros at 7 p.m. at the Allstate Arena.
