Westchester Knicks News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, and the Iowa Wolves played down to the wire, but the Wolves got away, 99-97, at Total Mortgage Arena, Sunday afternoon.
Two-Way Player DaQuan Jeffries led the Knicks (2-6) with 26 points on 58.8-percent (10-17), five rebounds, two steals and three blocks. Garrison Brooks (affiliate) recorded his third-straight double-double with 22 points on 60-percent (9-15) and 17 boards-high highest since the season opener at Maine (11/4) when he hauled 19. Jalen Johnson (tryout) contributed 12 points off the bench-the most he has scored since mid-December, six boards and one assist. Trevor Keels (Two-Way Player) ended with 11 points.
For the Wolves (3-6), Wendell Moore Jr., and Josh Minott both mirrored 20 points. Minott's accompanied eight rebounds and Moore dished eight helpers. CJ Elleby chipped in with 18 points as a reserve, five rebounds, and two assists.
The Knicks carried an eight-point lead at half, 55-47, and led by as many as 13 points through the first two quarters. In the early goings of the third, Westchester managed to expand its lead to 14 points evidenced at the 9:42 mark but on behind a 24-8, Iowa gained custody of the lead, 75-73 with 2:04 remaining in the quarter. The Wolves would eventually be in front by six before the fourth quarter's start.
Westchester stayed in striking distance of the Wolves and deadlocked scoring with just under two minutes to go in the game, 94-up. An empty Knicks possession and layup by Minott pushed the visitors back up two about 30 seconds after. A Trevor Keels layup knotted scoring again by a three-pointer launched by Elleby ultimately put the game at bay.
The Knicks have a chance with the Wolves again Tuesday, January 24 at 7 PM ET at Total Mortgage Arena
