Wolves Pavelec Earns AHL Goaltender Of The Month Honors

Chicago Wolves goaltender ONDREJ PAVELEC (AWN-dray PAH-vah-LEK) has been named the Rbk X-Pulse/AHL Goaltender of the Month for February.
The 20-year-old netminder led the league with nine wins (9-2-1) and posted a 1.49 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage during February to help the Wolves move into a tie for the top record in the American Hockey League. PAVELEC registered his first professional shutout on Feb. 8 against the Iowa Stars, one of eight times in 12 appearances during February that he held opponents to one or fewer goals. He also posted a career-high 43 saves against San Antonio on Feb. 27.
The Kladno, Czech Republic, native's 25 wins (25-9-1) lead AHL rookies, rank second overall in the league and are a franchise record by a Chicago first-year pro, surpassing Kari Lehtonen's 20 victories in 2003-04. PAVELEC also made his National Hockey League debut earlier this season, notching a 3-3-0 record with a 3.11 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage in seven games with the Atlanta Thrashers from Oct. 20 to Nov. 24.
PAVELEC, who becomes the first Chicago goaltender in three years to earn the league's monthly honor, will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Wolves home game in recognition of his achievement.
