Crunch's Goehring Named Rbk/AHL Player Of The Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Syracuse Crunch goaltender Karl Goehring has been named the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 2, 2008. Goehring stopped 131 of 136 shots in four starts, good for a 3-0-1 record, a 1.21 goals-against average and a .963 save percentage.
Goehring began his week by stopping 35 of 36 shots and seven of nine shootout attempts in a 2-1 setback at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday night. He made 32 saves in a 2-1 overtime victory at Toronto on Friday and turned aside 26 of 27 shots in Syracuse's 3-1 win over Rochester on Saturday. Goehring capped a busy week with his fourth start in five days and made a season-high 38 saves as the Crunch earned a 4-2 decision at Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
In recognition of his achievement, Goehring will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Crunch home game.
Goehring is now 8-9-1 in 21 appearances this season for Syracuse, Norfolk and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, with a 2.59 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage and one shutout. The Crunch's franchise leader in victories (71) has played 239 career AHL games, posting a record of 97-103-19 and 12 shutouts. The native of Apple Valley, Minn., played in the AHL All-Star Game in 2003 and was a two-time All-American at the University of North Dakota.
