Erie SeaWolves News Release

The Erie SeaWolves were trying to stop a skid that was threatening to drag the team further under the .500 mark. Unfortunately, missed opportunities resulted in a 5-3 loss to the Reading R-Phils. Zack Segovia's last start at the Uht started with 3 consecutive homers and while he did fare better this time around, it was still too much to overcome.

Segovia allowed two in the first off a triple by Cesar Hernandez and a double by Darin Ruf. The R-Phils tacked on another in the second when Ruf hit his second double of the night. Segovia gave up a two run shot to Tug Hulett in the 5th and would only last one more inning after.

However, for the first time in many nights, the SeaWolves' bats came to life off of two solo homeruns in the sixth. Jordan Lennerton and Rawley Bishop launched balls to the delight of 3,733 at the Uht to cut the lead to just three.

Unfortunately, the theme of the SeaWolves night was missed opportunities. By the end of game, Erie left 10 men on base and almost out hit the R-Phils (12-11 in favor of Reading).

The backbreaker came when the 'Wolves had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Lennerton reached first on an error by Hernandez at second and Ben Guez drew a follow up walk. Bishop and Tony Plagman would then respectively pop out and strike out for 2 outs. Brandon Douglas singled, however Erie held Lennerton at third for fear that right fielder Brandon Tripp would get his second runner out. Jamie Johnson ended the inning with a ground out.

Robbie Weinhardt came in to relieve Michael Morrison who had gotten one Reading out but walked another two aboard. Weinhardt kept the SeaWolves in the game by retiring two R-Phils to end the threat, but the Wolves could do nothing with their final three outs.

Erie will have another shot to defeat the R-Phils and end their losing streak tomorrow at 6:35.
