Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - Kyle Bellows snapped a tie game with a three-run home run in the fifth inning to catapult the Akron Aeros to a 5-1 win over the Trenton Thunder at Waterfront Park. Freehold New Jersey's Brett Brach (1-) pitched five solid innings in his personal homecoming to record the win, Akron's league-best 27th of the season.
With the score tied 1-1 in the fifth, Ben Copeland reached leading off against Brett Marshall (4-2) on second-baseman David Adams' fielding error. The next batter Ryan Rohlinger attempted to sacrifice, but his bunt turned into a base hit when Adam collided with the first-base umpire while trying to cover first base.
Bellows, the reigning Eastern League Player of the Week, then drove a three-run blast to right to make the score 4-1. It was Bellow's third home run in his last four games.
Brach allowed five hits in his five innings, allowing only one run and striking out five. Rob Bryson and Loek van Mil combined for four run-less and hitless innings to finish the win.
The Thunder and Aeros will play game two of the four-game series on Tuesday at 7:05 pm, with left-hander Vidal Nuno (NR) slated to make his debut for the Thunder and be opposed by Aeros' righty Paolo Espino (0-0). Limited tickets are available by contacting the Thunder box office at 609-394-3300 or online at www.trentonthunder.com.
