New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH. - Coming off a three-game losing streak to the Trenton Thunder, the Fisher Cats (17-25) opened a four-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs (15-28) in grand style on Monday night. Brett Cecil, Danny Farquhar, and Ronald Uviedo combined for the third no-hitter in Fisher Cats history with a 6-0 shutout of Portland. It's the first time the Fisher Cats have held an opponent hitless since Kyle Drabek's nine-inning no-no against New Britain on the 4th of July, 2010.
Cecil (W; 2-2) began the night strongly with a pair of strikeouts in the top of the first inning, setting the tone for Sea Dogs hitters. The lefty issued three walks - one each in the second, fifth, and sixth - before ending his night with two more K's. He finished the game with eight punch outs, tying his high with the Fisher Cats set in 2008.
He turned the ball over to Farquhar, who added three strikeouts to the team total over 2.1 innings. The righty retired the first six he faced before an innocent two-out walk in the eighth. New infielder Brian Bocock saved the no-hitter for Farquhar's final out by ranging deep behind second base to retire Ryan Dent. Uviedo then worked around a lead-off walk in the ninth to seal the deal.
Offensively, Mike McDade led an opportunistic seven-hit attack. The first baseman turned a 1-0 game into a 3-0 advantage with a two-out double in the bottom of the third. Two innings later, his RBI single was followed by a two-out strike from Bocock to wrap up another three-run frame. Bocock finished his first Fisher Cats outing with two hits and a walk.
Highly-regarded Red Sox prospect Anthony Ranaudo (L; 0-1) took his first Double-A loss, batting his command with five walks over 4.2 innings.
The series continues on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. It's Guys Night Out with food and drink specials for all guys in attendance. For tickets, fans can purchase and print their tickets at www.nhfishercats.com.
Tuesday's pitching match-up features RHP Deck McGuire (2-5, 6.75) looking for a second straight win against Portland LHP Chris Hernandez (2-3, 2.64). Radio coverage begins at 6:45 PM with Tom Gauthier and Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
