Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Wolves wrapped up their double-header weekend at home Sunday afternoon with a matinee match-up with the Mississauga Steelheads. The Wolves were looking to get back in the win column, but were only able to pick up 1 point in an overtime loss to the Steelheads.
The Wolves and Steelheads played a scoreless opening frame. Wolves' goaltender ZACK BOWMAN made 14 shots alone in the first, while JACK FLINN made 11 saves for the Steelheads.
In the second period, the Wolves dominated a majority of the play. 20-year-old PATRICK MURPHY put the Wolves on the board early in the frame on the powerplay. However, Mississauga wasted no time in tying the game up at 1 on a goal by Nicolas Hague. DAVID LEVIN displayed some of the skills that made him the first overall pick in last year's OHL Priority Selection just over 5 minutes into the period as he passed the puck between his legs to KYLE CAPOBIANCO who passed it back to LEVIN to bury the puck and regain the Wolves lead. MIKKEL AAGAARD helped increase the Wolves lead to two goals before the period came to the end.
The Steelheads scored three unanswered goals in the first 8 minutes of the period to take over the lead from the Wolves., however the Wolves weren't about to give up. DMITRY SOKOLOV waited out the Steelheads goalie to tie the game back up at 4 goals apiece with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Both teams had plenty of chances to end the game in regulation, but BOWMAN and FLINN shuts their doors.
Mississauga's Daniel Muzito-Bagenda solved Wolves' goaltender ZACK BOWMAN halfway through the extra frame to lift the Steelheads over the Wolves. Mississauga was 2 for 10 on the powerplay, while the Wolves were 1 for three. RYAN VALENTINI continued his hot streak, adding 3 assists in Sunday's match-up. Final shots on goal were 38-33 in favour of the Steelheads.
The Wolves will hit the road next weekend to make stops in Ottawa, Peterborough and Kingston and will return to action at home on March 4th against the Owen Sound Attack at 7pm.
