Ottawa 67's News Release

The Ottawa 67's picked up an important point on the road Sunday night, battling the Oshawa Generals to overtime in a tight game before ultimately falling 2-1 in the extra session.

Battling for home ice advantage in the playoffs with less than a dozen games left in the OHL regular season, 67's forward Nathan Todd tied the game in the second period with his 12th of the season, a huge goal that came with Ottawa on the powerplay and less than two minutes after Brock Welsh had opened the scoring for the home team. That was all the scoring either team could generate in regulation as both goalies turned in great performances.

Goalie Leo Lazarev continued a run of strong play in the Ottawa net, turning away 31 of 33 shots fired his way. Anthony Cirelli scored the winner for the Generals early in overtime, the point earned by Ottawa puts them ahead of the Niagara IceDogs -- whom Ottawa host Monday night -- in the Eastern Conference Standings. The 67's are also just one point back of fourth-place Peterborough.

Jeremy Brodeur picked up the win in goal for Oshawa, turning away several good scoring chances in the second and third periods to keep things close. Lazarev, meanwhile, had to be sharp throughout the game, particularly with Ottawa forced to kill a five-minute major in the third.

The 67's host the IceDogs at 7 p.m. Monday night at TD Place.
