February 19, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves kicked off their double-header weekend Friday night by hosting the Peterborough Petes for the final time this season. The Wolves were looking to rebound from their loss in North Bay on Thursday. Despite a strong effort from the Wolfpack and two goals from RYAN VALENTINI, the Wolves couldn't overcome the Petes, falling 6-4.
The Wolves got off to a quick start in the opening frame as VALENTINI gave the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead. DMITRY SOKOLOV and REAGAN O'GRADY picked up the assists on the opening goal. The Petes then took over the play scoring 3 unanswered goals. Eric Cornel, Greg Betzold and Logan DeNoble added the markers for the Petes. The Wolves were not about to roll over as overager PATRICK MURPHY brought the Wolves within one. After the first, the Wolves led shots on goal 14-10.
The Wolves continued their strong play to begin the second period as once again RYAN VALENTINI scored early in the frame to tie the game up at one goal apiece. The Petes once again took the lead with 5 minutes remaining in the second on a goal by Dominik Masin.
In the third, the Petes increased their lead on a short-handed goal by Jonathan Ang just over 6 minutes into the final frame. The Wolves closed the gap to one when MIKKEL AAGAARD potted one with just under 7 minutes remaining in the frame. The Wolves pulled goaltender TROY TIMPANO with less than two minutes to play in a last ditch effort to tie up the game, however, the Petes were able to increase their lead with an empty net goal. The Petes took the match by a final score of 6-4. The Wolves led shots on goal 37-27.
The Wolves look to get back in the win column on Sunday when they host the Mississauga Steelheads at 2pm. There are great seats still available for purchase online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets or at the Sudbury Arena Box Office after 11am on Sunday.
