Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves were at home Friday night to host the North Bay Battalion in part two of a home and home series with their Northern Rivals, the North Bay Battalion. The Wolves were looking to even the series after the Battalion took Thursday night's contect 3-0.
In the first period of action, North Bay's DAVID SHERMAN connected with MARCUS MCIVOR to put the Battalion up by one. The Wolves offense was strong in the opening 20 minutes of play, however they couldn't put one past Battalion netminder JAKE SMITH. The Wolves outshot the Battalion 13-20 in the first period.
The Wolves came out strong in the second period both offensively and defensively. Wolves' overage forward, NATHAN PANCEL sniped one top shelf to tie the game up at one goal a piece. Shots on goal after the second were 26-20 in favour of the Wolves.
The 3rd period action saw an even match up with teams getting chances at both ends of the ice. North Bay's RAY HUETHER tapped one in during a scramble in front of the Wolves net to give them a 2-1 lead. The Wolves had a last minute serge but were unable to put another goal past SMITH.
Both Battalion goaltender JAKE SMITH and Wolves' goaltender SAMUEL TANGUAY were outstanding in net. SMITH saved 34 shots on goal, earning him the first star of the game honours. TANGUAY also had a solid game stopping 28 out of 30 faced to give him second star.
The Wolves are back in action next Friday night when they host the 2013-14 OHL Champions, the Guelph Storm at 7:30PM. Call 705-671-3000, visit www.greatersudbury.ca or visit the Sudbury Arena Box Office for ticketing information.
