Erie Otters News Release

Saginaw, Michigan - The Otters allowed the first goal before exploding for seven unanswered against Saginaw Saturday night. Joel Wigle scored his first two goals of the season in the win and Dylan Strome added another pair of goals back-to-back.

Erie had the first power play of the game, but it was Saginaw with the first goal. Mitchell Stephens flew past Travis Dermott and put the puck on the net shorthanded, giving the Spirit a 1-0 lead, but it was a lead that wouldn't last.

Kurtis MadDermid and Sean Callaghan dropped the gloves at center ice halfway through the period, and, four minutes later, Taylor Raddysh's ninth of the year tied the game at one with the lone assist to Shaun Bily. The tie didn't last long. Dylan Strome found the back of the net on a bounce and the Otters took the 2-1 lead, assists going to Trent Fox and Alex DeBrincat. It looked as though Saginaw would tie the game with 32 seconds left in the period, but Devin Williams made a huge save to keep the lead in Erie's favor.

The Otters' offense took off for four goals in the second period. Strome notched his second of the night 14 seconds into the second. Patrick Murphy gave the Otters a 4-1 lead just short of the halfway mark for the period. Fox and DeBrintcat each netted their third point of the night with assists on both of Strome's goals and Murphy's.

Forty-nine seconds later, with Mason Marchment in the box, Joel Wigle made it 5-1 Otters shorthanded and unassisted. The Otters weren't finished. Darren Raddysh extended his point streak to 15 games with a goal from Taylor Raddysh and Shaun Bily, both picking up their second point of the night.

Erie started the third period march to the penalty box with MacDermid, but nearly half of the third period was spent on the power play for the Otters. A string of penalties to Mitchell Webb (9:37), Nick Moutrey (11:36), Ryan Orban (13:09), and another for Moutrey (15:31) made it hard for Saginaw to keep much momentum despite a couple of solid chances.

Despite the string of power play opportunities, Wigle's second goal of the night - and the season - came almost immediately after the last penalty to Moutrey expired. Murphy picked up another point with an assist, the other assist going to Cory Genovese.

Darren Raddysh continues to set the bar higher with the new team record for point streak for a defenseman. Seven Otters had multiple points in the game, including a three-point night for both DeBrincat and Fox.

The Otters head home to face off against Misissauga in a Thanksgiving Day matchup on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
