February 8, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - With seven days in between games, the Everett Silvertips were well-rested coming into Friday's battle with the Tri-City Americans. With 3,558 in attendance at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, the Silvertips defeated the Americans 5-0 on scattered scoring across the lineup sheet as Everett secured two important points over a US Division rival.

Dustin Wolf earned his league leading 8th shutout of the season and 19th of his career on 18 saves, moving into a tie for 7th in WHL history with Kelly Guard and Darcy Kuemper. Jake Christiansen earned first star honors with a goal and an assist while the Tips moved to 7-0-1 in the last eight games.

UP NEXT: Everett continues their road trip against the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday, 6:05 p.m. (KRKO / WHL Live) at accesso ShoWare Center. The Tips will return to AOTW Arena on Friday, February 14th for Valentine's Day at 7:35pm when they take on the Thunderbirds.

It was a mostly even first period from Kennewick as both teams had a good pace. No goal would be scored until Ethan Regnier fed Jake Christiansen, who sniped it past the right shoulder of Tri-City netminder Mason Dunsfield to make it 1-0 for Everett with 54 seonds left. Christiansen's thirteenth goal of the season is a career-high for him and it took him just twenty-three games to do it in. In just 67 games last year, Christiansen scored 12 goals as he would give Everett the early lead on Friday night.

The second period was slower paced but it was all in Everett's favor.

The Silvertips outshot the Americans 17-3 in the middle frame as Justyn Gurney made it a 2-0 game 17:26 into the second. Justyn Gurney's fourth goal of the year came with assists from Gage Goncalves and Bryce Kindopp at 17:26 but it wasn't the only scoring for Everett in the second. Gage Goncalves netted his first and only of the night with less than 30 seconds to go to give Everett a 3-0 lead after forty minutes.

While the 3-0 lead might be considered a dangerous lead in hockey, Everett continued to add to their total in the third period.

Off a Jacob Wright deflection, Everett found themselves up by four with less than fourteen minutes to go. Wyatte Wylie would score a power play goal for Everett to make it a 5-0 game at 13:34 and give the Tips their eighth win in Everett's last nine opportunities.

It was also Everett's fourth straight victory against Tri-City as the teams meet again on February 26th in Kennewick.

GAME NOTES: Scratched from tonight's game were Dawson Butt, and Gianni Fairbrother... tonight was Justyn Gurney's first multi-point game of his career as he's got four goals and eight assists this season ... the Tips moved to 4-1-0 in five games against Tri-City this season.
