Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, IN – The Dayton Dragons (20-31) and Fort Wayne Wizards (22-29) completed Sunday's suspended game with Fort Wayne winning the third game of the series by a 6-1 score. The Wizards jumped on the Dragons with a five run bottom of the first inning in the regularly scheduled game on Monday and took three of four from the Dragons on the series with a ?-? win.

Fort Wayne came out swinging after the rain delay on Sunday and put up a quick pair of runs against the Dragons in the bottom of the first inning. Dayton starter Rainer Feliz (L,0-1) was hit hard from the get go. Brian Wahlbrink led the game off with a triple for the Wizards and scored on a RBI single from Peeter Ramos to make the score 1-0. Ramos cruised home all the way from first base on a RBI double from Jordan Pickens and the Wizards lead grew to 2-0.

Fort Wayne added to the tally in the home half of the third to balloon the lead to 5-0. With one down, Fernando Valenzuela singled and moved to second base on the walk issued to George Kottaras. With two on and one down, Skip Adams hammered a Feliz pitch over the wall in left center for a three run HR, his fourth long ball of the season.

Once the game resumed on Monday, Fort Wayne added a single tally in the bottom of the fifth off Josh Thigpen (ND), to make the score 6-0, on a bases loaded walk to Juan Ciriaco. The Dragons picked up their lone run off Sazi Guthrie (W, 1-1) on a SAC fly by Elvin Beltre in the top of the seventh.

Fort Wayne cruised to an easy win in the regularly scheduled Monday afternoon game, picking up seven runs in the first two innings off Dayton starter Tyler Pelland (L, 1-5). The Wizards scored five runs in the first off Pelland and added three more in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead.

The early offense would be more than enough for Wizards starter Clark Girardeau (W, 1-4) to pick up his first win of the season. Girardeau tossed 6.0 innings of baseball allowing three run and five hits on the day. The Dragons picked up all of their runs in the fifth on a RBI single by Chris Dickerson and a two RBI single by Joey Votto.

Fort Wayne added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a three run HR by center fielder Brian Wahlbrink, to close the scoring out at 11-3.

The Dragons return home on Tuesday to open a four game series with the Battle Creek Yankees at Fifth Third Field. Tuesday night's first pitch will be at 7:00 PM with 1410 ESPN Radio carrying the game live beginning with the pre game show at 1:30 PM. In the final game of Dayton's longest road trip of the 2004 season, the Dragons will send LHP Tyler Pelland to the mound, while Fort Wayne will start RHP Clark Girardeau.
